A fusion of different culture, Murcia is treated as an alternative place for residential development in Negros Province. Murcia transformed from predominantly agricultural town to an economic zone mirrors the local government's effort in replicating the industrialization boom in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, and Subic areas.

These are realized with the help of the establishment of bridges, road networks, and other infrastructure projects interconnects Murcia to Negros & rsquo; capital city, Bacolod.

From different waterfalls to river resorts, Murcia is home to the province & rsquo;s flagship tourism attraction, the scenic and lovely Mambukal Summer Resort. Sports-enthusiasts always go and visit the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Hacienda Binitin located at the Barangay Blumentritt, a place of various national tournaments. It is also in Blumentritt where the best Tanduay spirits are distilled.

Murcia is co-host to the North Negros Geothermal Project of the Philippine National Oil Company-Energy Development Corporation, that would provide the electricity needs of the province in the coming years. Murcia is guaranteed priority in the use of geothermal power.

It was founded by Fr. Miguel Alvarez, an Augustinian Recollect priest, way back in 1860, Murcia is believed to have derived its name from a town in Spain. During World War II, its municipal hall was used as a garrison by the Japanese, who were constantly attacked by guerillas who drove them out on April 21, 1945. It was in the mountains of Murcia where a Free Negros Government was set up under Gov. Alfredo Montelibano, Sr.

Getting to Murcia

Murcia is only a twenty-minute drive from Bacolod City by private car, about 30 to 45 minutes by Public Utility Vehicles, and flying this route can reach the municipality in almost the same time.

The City of Bacolod is located at the northern part of Negros Occidental, northwest of Negros Oriental and southeastern part of the province of Iloilo. It is the capital city and entry point to Negros Occidental. Aside from having culture and history, Bacolod City has excellent convention facilities making it a convention destination.

Getting To Bacolod City

There are three ways to reached Bacolod City:

  • By Air

    Bacolod can be accessed by three major airline companies ( PAL, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines ) that also run connecting flights to different parts of the Visayas and Mindanao region.


  • By Sea

    Two major sea vessels, the WG & A from Superferry and Negros Navigation Company, respectively, fly the route from Manila to Bacolod as well five minor commercial vessels that connect it to the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao region.


  • By Land

    Buses, taxis, jeepneys and tricycles are the main mode of transport within the city. However, buses provide regular trips from Bacolod and other towns. Centers to the rest of the surrounding provinces.

Bacolod Golf and Country Club is located in Hacienda, Binitin. The narrow fairways are bounded by eucalyptus trees and OB stakes that are clearly visible. The place has a golf-course and assures golfers of the most enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

Calibago River Resort is a campers favorite. Tents are available for overnight stay. Bicycles are for rent but you may opt to go horse back riding.

There is also a water slide for kids. Pandanon Silos Mountain and River Resort, a 45-minute drive from Bacolod City located at Brgy. Pandanon Silos, Murcia. This river resort has function halls, day cottages and accommodation facilities with swimming pool, plus packages offered for the adventurous to explore the river.

Barangay Sta. Rosa is the site of Japanese soldiers who surrender to the American forces at the end of the World War II. The monument stands marking the historic surrender. Hacienda Kaftrees.

Located in Barangay Caliban has a land area of about 10 hectares of fruit trees plantation. The place is perfect for seminars, retreats and other social events. Facilities include private rooms, shed houses, basketball court and swimming pools and many more lovable and romantic sites.

Festivals

  • Mudpack Festival

The much anticipated Mudpack Festival is celebrated every third weekend of June at Mambukal Resort. The Mudpack Festival is a symbolic presentation that seeks to instill awareness in caring for the environment. Dancers are painted and coated with colorful mud found abundant in the resort.

The Mudpack Festival is a different event as it centers on the harmony of man and nature. The celebration features Mambukal’s distinct multi-colored clay to stir people’s awareness of the importance of our environment. It is a Festival of Arts and this serves as venue where artist from all over Negros gather to exhibit their respective artistic talents in ethnic dances, crafts and music.

  • Tinabu-ay Festival

Another festival here is the so-called Tinabu-ay Festival, the town annual celebration of good harvest and thanksgiving. It is a 9-day religious-cultural folk festival depicting the town's market day and highlighting its agricultural products. It is also a celebration in honor of the birthday of the Immaculate Conception, the patron saint of this town.

  • Victory day

The province-wide “Victory Day” celebrating every September 9, wherein the Japanese soldiers surrendered to the Americans in Barangay Santa Rosa, commemorating the heroism and patriotism of native soldiers during the Second World War.
